Stanley Trademark Stamps

The following reference guide provides examples of Stanley’s trademark stamps from 1872 to the present. It is by no means comprehensive or complete, but this covers the main trademarks. There were often variations used on block planes and other tools. Some of the photos are pretty poor. I will try to photograph better examples as time goes by.

    Hello,

we just bought a very old chest. The latch has a stamp on it. Engraved is PAT then below is the Heart with S.W. and below that is a date June 1702.

We looked online to see if we can find anything about that ingraving and came across this website.

Can you help if that hartware from that chest is an early product from Stanley Works?

Is there a guide to determine when a 24” level no. 0 with the BB trademark was made? The level is also labeled in one spot on the side:
“STANLEY (in the BB trademark style)
    MADE IN U.S.A.
    GENUINE CHERRY
    BEST WOOD FOR LEVELS”

I don’t know the answer, but someone else might. There are also some groups on Facebook specific to Levels that may be better able to answer.

Thanks for your prompt reply – and for the trademark dating. At least I can be certain the level I have is no older than 1935. I’ll have to leave it at that, until some other source surfaces as I stay away from Facebook. Thanks, again.

I have a 28” Stanley level trademarked 6-2-91 6-23-96. The #3 is stamped into the top near the brass plate. I believe it is mahogany.
